Johnston Long Island Historical Society 1878 First Edition Hard Cover Good Signed by Author Long Island Historical Society, 1878. First Edition. Original red leather boards with gilt title on spine. Top edge gilt. Author's copy, inscribed to a 'Mr. Richard Av__se with the sincerest Regards of the Author'. This copy includes two extra portrait plates not included in other printings, a plate of Oliver Wolcott and one of William Henshaw. 6 maps (including frontispiece), and 4 portraits (plus the two additional). Errata slip included at page 298. 300 pages of text followed by 209 pages of documents, including index. Volume III of Long Island Historical Society Memoirs, 7 pages after index. Cover has rubbed edges, chipped spine ends, two small cracks on front spine edge. Binding strings are broken in center of book , all gatherings and pages present - highly reparable. Two large pull-out maps, first map has two closed tears, where map is attached to book, second map has one small closed at top. Several uncut pages throughout. Mild foxing on frontispiece and title page, otherwise pages are clean and unmarked. Front hinge is cracked with 1/4 inch of binding material exposed, back hinge is lightly cracked. This book is an excellent candidate for some minor repairs. Very nice copy. One of a kind. Price:
